Get Online Week and the Bridge Go-On launch (30th October – 6th November)

Although we had a few hiccups with internet provision in October clashing with our launch on the 2nd November during UK Online Week. We still went ahead with our event, setting up in the Bridge Café. We chatted with lots of people, talking about their experience of getting online, and what they have learned and would like to learn about getting more out of online.

We also had digital themed activities in the playgroup at the Bridge, which was great fun for parents and children alike. These activities spread awareness of UK Get Online Week and got people talking about getting more out of the internet.

November and December 2011

Although our group was small during November and December, we had a great atmosphere and some great successes. Karla Pepper our Bridge receptionist wanting to gain more confidence and experience online did the Go-On course.

“The Go-On Course has not only helped me feel more confident using the internet but it has also helped me feel confident using the keyboard and computer at work.” Karla Pepper

Thanks to her new confidence Karla continued to come along to the groups to support others as they themselves did the Go-On Course.

January and February 2012

We have seen a drop off in the numbers of those coming along to do the Go-On course at the start of 2012. So we have been putting in time, energy, and some hard thinking, into how we can support more people getting online in our community.

We have been in contact with such people as our local secondary school (Hastings Academy), the local arm of the University of the Third Age and the Hastings and St Leonards Seniors Forum. Trying to work with them to let people know what we are offering, for example the Go-On course at the Bridge will get a mention in the Hastings and St Leonards Seniors Forum Newsletter this February.

February and March 2016

We are currently midway through a Go On course, which is being tutor-led by one of our Trustees from The Bridge. Recent courses have been extended to include the use of tablets. Go On is still well attended by local people. The course runs on Mondays from 11am-12 noon.
